Valve's Secret Hero Shooter Deadlock Leaks Unreleased Characters

Valve's latest game Deadlock continues to make waves in the gaming community, despite still being in an invite-only beta phase. The third-person hero shooter with MOBA elements has not only surpassed 100,000 concurrent players but has also inadvertently revealed some upcoming content.

A recent patch to Deadlock briefly exposed three unreleased heroes on the game's new profile statistics screen before they were quickly removed in a hotfix. However, enterprising players managed to capture evidence of these new characters:

  1. Mirage: A desert-themed hero with abilities to create tornadoes, launch beetles, and tether enemies.
  2. Wrecker: A scrap-wizard character who can throw junk balls, gain buffs from killing enemy troops, and launch an explosive specter.
  3. Holliday (also known as Astro): A western gunslinger with a magical hat, able to deploy explosive barrels, bounce pads, and a spirit lasso.

While these heroes are not yet fully implemented, players have discovered console commands that allow partial access to their abilities in Deadlock's sandbox mode. It's important to note that as the game is still in early development, these characters and their abilities are likely to undergo significant changes before official release.

Deadlock's popularity continues to grow, with SteamDB reporting a peak of 106,447 concurrent players on August 29, 2024. This success is particularly remarkable given the game's invite-only status, where players can only join through direct invitation from Valve or referral from existing players.

As Valve moves forward with development, the gaming community eagerly anticipates more information about these new heroes and when they might be officially added to Deadlock's roster. The accidental reveal has only heightened interest in this already intriguing blend of hero shooter and MOBA genres.
