Samsung has begun mass production of its latest PCIe 5.0 solid-state drive, the PM9E1, which boasts industry-leading performance that could signal a new era for high-speed storage.

The PM9E1 achieves sequential read speeds of up to 14.5 GB/s and write speeds of 13.5 GB/s, effectively doubling the performance of its PCIe 4.0 predecessor. This puts Samsung's new drive at the forefront of SSD technology, surpassing even the Crucial T705, which was previously the fastest with 14.5 GB/s read but only 12.7 GB/s write speeds.

Samsung has also doubled the drive's durability rating to 2,400 TBW (Terabytes Written), promising enhanced longevity for heavy workloads.
