Sony Unveils Limited Edition PS5 Pro for 30th Anniversary Celebration

Sony is gearing up to commemorate three decades of PlayStation with a nostalgic nod to its roots. The tech giant has announced a limited edition PlayStation 5 Pro console that pays homage to the iconic gray design of the original PlayStation, which debuted on December 3, 1994.

The PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection features:

  • PS5 Pro console in classic gray
  • DualSense wireless controller
  • DualSense Edge wireless controller
  • Console cover for disc drive
  • Collector's items including:
    • USB-C cable styled after original PS controller
    • Stickers
    • Poster
    • Paper clip (a quirky inclusion)

For those who prefer the digital route, a PS5 Digital Edition bundle will also be available in the retro color scheme. Even the PlayStation Portal Remote Player is getting the anniversary treatment with a matching gray finish.

Exclusivity is the name of the game here - Sony is producing only 12,300 units of the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition worldwide. Each console will be individually numbered, reflecting the December 3 (12/3) launch date of the original PlayStation.

While pricing details remain under wraps, expect a premium over the standard PS5 Pro's price tag, given the limited nature and inclusion of the high-end DualSense Edge controller.

Pre-orders for the PS5 Pro bundle kick off on September 26th through PlayStation Direct in select regions, with retailer pre-orders following suit. The PS5 Digital Edition bundle pre-orders start later, on October 10th.

Beyond hardware, Sony promises additional anniversary celebrations including:

  • Free online multiplayer weekend
  • PS5 esports tournaments
  • Streaming availability for classic PlayStation game soundtracks

This limited edition release taps into the nostalgia of long-time PlayStation fans while offering cutting-edge hardware. It's a fitting tribute to a brand that has shaped the gaming landscape for three decades.

For those eager to secure this piece of gaming history, mark your calendars and prepare for what will likely be a fast-selling collector's item.
