Recall Feature Now Uninstallable (with a Catch)

After facing criticism over the controversial Recall feature in Copilot, Microsoft has taken a step towards giving users more control. An optional Windows 11 update (KB5041865) now allows users to completely uninstall Recall, rather than just disabling it.

However, there's a potential caveat:

  • This uninstall option was spotted in a German build of Windows 11.
  • It may be limited to European versions due to EU Digital Markets Act (DMA) requirements.
  • Global availability of this feature remains uncertain.

For users outside the EU hoping to remove Recall, there may be workarounds to enable EEA (European Economic Area) features, but official confirmation is pending.

Copilot Brings AI Image Generation to PowerPoint

In a move to streamline presentation creation, Microsoft has integrated Copilot's AI image capabilities directly into PowerPoint. This feature offers two powerful options:

  1. Stock Image Search: Users can request specific images using natural language, and Copilot will automatically search and place relevant stock photos or illustrations.

  2. AI Image Generation (Copilot Pro): Subscribers to Copilot Pro can leverage DALL-E 3 technology to create custom images based on text descriptions. This feature is currently available in the web and Windows versions of PowerPoint.

How it works:

  • Users describe their desired image to Copilot.
  • For stock images, Copilot searches and places an option automatically.
  • For AI-generated images, Copilot presents multiple options to choose from.
  • Images are royalty-free for use within Microsoft 365 and Office apps.

This integration aims to save time and boost creativity in presentation design, eliminating the need for manual image searches or expensive stock photo subscriptions.

As Microsoft continues to evolve Copilot, we can expect further refinements to balance powerful AI assistance with user privacy and control.
