Nubia Red Magic 9S Pro: AI-Powered Gaming Beast with Overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

Nubia is set to unveil its latest gaming smartphone, the Red Magic 9S Pro, on July 3rd in China. This new device promises to push the boundaries of mobile gaming performance with some impressive specifications and features.

Overclocked Powerhouse

The standout feature of the Red Magic 9S Pro is its chipset - an overclocked version of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, dubbed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Leading Version. This custom chip boasts a prime Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.4GHz, up from 3.3GHz in the standard version. The GPU is also getting a boost, with clock speeds increased by 1GHz.

This potent combination has already shown promising results in benchmarks. A variant believed to be the Red Magic 9S Pro+ scored an impressive 2.36 million points in AnTuTu, with strong showings across CPU, GPU, memory, and UX tests.

Cooling Innovations

To keep this powerhouse running smoothly, Nubia has developed an advanced cooling system. Dubbed ICE 13.5, it combines a 10,000-level ice-grade vapor chamber, innovative frost cooling gel, and a high-speed centrifugal fan. The company claims this setup can reduce body temperature by up to 19.5°C and CPU core temperature by up to 25°C.

AI Integration

While details are still sparse, Nubia is teasing AI capabilities for the Red Magic 9S Pro. The device is said to incorporate a large language model with a first-word response time of just 1 second. This could enable advanced text generation and summarization features, similar to what we've seen in other flagship devices.

Design and Display

Official renders reveal some design changes compared to its predecessor. The camera module has been relocated to the side of the device, with a redesigned flash placement. The iconic Red Magic logo has also shifted position. Two color variants will feature a transparent finish near the motherboard and air vent, adding a unique aesthetic touch.

The display is expected to be a 6.8-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Bezels appear to be slimmer than on previous models.

Other Specifications

  • RAM: Up to 24GB LPDDR5X
  • Storage: Up to 1TB UFS 4.0
  • Battery: 6,500mAh (unconfirmed)
  • Camera: Likely a triple rear setup (50MP + 50MP + 2MP) and a 16MP front-facing camera
  • Software: Android 14
